Elegant Sensuality – Balance and Spirituality

Elegant Sensuality – Balance and Spirituality

The deep fuchsia under the lily pads, the violet lotus flowers, and the blush pinks were creating magic amongst the greens in The Winter Gardens at the Domain in Auckland last month.  While the velvet cushions evoke an elegant sensuality, the green and purple of the Zebra plant bring balance and spirituality to any space.  Don’t be afraid of adding these colours to your settings, as they bring a sense of heavenly playfulness.

Embracing The Blues

Embracing The Blues

Blue is such an uplifting colour.  It goes with just about everything.  Inspiration is everywhere –  from the fabulous winter blue sky days; Timothy Oulton’s Noble Souls indigo dyed linen; this gorgeous Pierre Frey fabric; glossy textured subway tiles from The Tile People, to the layers of blue inks in my latest painting ‘When All You Can Hear Is What You Can See’.

After many layers of shellac inks and acrylics the depth is magic.  ‘When All You Hear Is What You See‘ is ready for sale. 1200x1200mm on Ply Box Board.

Colour Inspiration From Kawakawa Leaves

Colour Inspiration From Kawakawa Leaves

We are surrounded by inspiration, so when developing paint colours, and creating colour schemes, I am always on the look out for new combinations of saturations and tones. The colours of these dried Kawakawa leaves are rich in indigo, soft green, walnut brown, and blushed taupe. It’s one of my favourite teas for a revitalising tonic too.  I loved the synchronicity at the launch today of new furniture and furnishings in similar colours.

BTW note no ‘chopped’ cushion in sight !!  Stop it with the chopping people.

Thoughts of the Day

Drink good coffee made with love!  Have several favourite cafes – many if you are lucky.

Know the rules, then you can break them.     There are no rules!   Make up your own rules…. then break those.

See colour … really see colour.

Learn, learn and then learn some more.

Every day, smile…. find someone who makes you smile, find something that makes you smile

Do something that makes you smile – smile on the inside – smile at a stranger – fake it and just smile…. soon you will be smiling at yourself. (or laughing at yourself)

Go to exhibitions.  If you just don’t get it….talk to the artist…. see it through someone else’s eyes … go back on another day… you will see the art from a whole new perspective.

See life through someone else’s eyes.

Take the dog for a walk…. take someones dog for a walk.

Grumpy? – eat chocolate (dark),  savour the moment – then smile.

Remember to breathe – breathe deeply and slowly when you are sitting at the traffic lights.

Never say never.
